Texas Holdem Tips
In this section, we will go over some great tips you can implement
into your Texas Holdem strategy. From the flop to the river, you
will find these tips to be very helpful. Be sure to have already
familiarized your self to this games lingo in order to better understand
some of the tips below.
Tips For The Flop
- If the flop does not fit your hand, most of the time you need
to fold. Remember, the flop defines your hand.
- If you flop a big hand, give the other players an opportunity
to make the second best hand - avoid giving them a free card later
that could beat you though.
- If you are new to this popular online casino game, always know
that it is better to err on the side of caution than to get involved
in a costly hand that you end up losing.
- If you are holding a hand with multiple possibilities, play
it fast. Remember, it has value exceeding any of its component possibilities.
- When playing Holdem, you should be selective about the hands
you plan to play both before the flop and after the flop. But, be
aggressive when you are holding a hand that calls for aggression.
- Say you flop a draw - stick with it as long as the pot promises
a bigger pay-off than the odds against making your hand do.
Tips For The Turn
- Raise when you have the top two pair on the turn. The only time
you don't want to is if the board is tree-suited or otherwise threatening.
- If you have an open-ended straight draw or flush draw with two
or more opponents, call a bet on the turn. On the other hand, if
the board shows a pair, and there's a bet and raise in front of
you - be skeptical. Someone may be holding a full house.
- On the turn, bet - or check (planning to raise) when you are
certain that you are holding the best hand. You always want to make
it expensive for your opponents who are on the come to draw out.
- If you hold a draw, see if you can make your hand as inexpensively
as possible.
- At this point in the game, if you have a hand you would call
with, betting instead of calling is a superior strategy here if
you think that doing so could cause anyone else to fold.
- Be aware of picking up a draw on the turn. It may allow you
to keep playing a hand that you otherwise would fold.
- If contemplating a checkraise as opposed to betting here - unless
you think your opponent will bet AND call your raise, you should
come out betting here.
Tips For The River
- Once the river card is dealt, your hand no longer has any potential
value. It potential is then realized.
- Your choice to check or bet if no one has acted - or to fold,
call, raise or reraise if there has been action - can only be based
on the hand's realized value.
- If you make two pair on the river, it will usually be the best
hand - but if the turn or river brings a third suited card - be
skeptical - your opponent may have just picked up a flush.
- Remember this, when it is heads-up, and the pot is big, it is
always better to err by calling with the worst hand than it is to
fold with the winning hand.
- Overcalling requires a hand strong enough to beat genuine calling
hands.
