Poker Legends - Johnny Moss
Called The Grand Old Man, Johnny moss played poker every day.
That is, just about every day of his entire life - until he turned
89. From Texas originally, he played on the famous underground poker
circuit that were played illegally in halls and backrooms all over
the South during the Great Depression. Eventually, he became known
as one of th emost travelled poker players.
He was the first player to tout poker as a spectator sport, playing
in what's known as the greatest heads-up event of all time, the
1949 game on Fremont Street in Downtown Vegas. In the event he faced
Nick The Greek Dandalos in a 21 week marathon of 5 Card Stud.
Later, he moved to Vegas and took-over the Dunes poker room. During
his reign there, the poker room was second to none.
Moss won the WSOP 3 times. Perhaps he would have been able to win
more of the WSOP events had he been younger. He passed away in 1997.
