Poker Legends - Johnny Chan
Commonly known as the Orient Express, Johnny Chan came from China
when he was only 9 years of age. Fleeing a bad political regime
his family moved him to US city, Houston.
At 21, he went to Vegas and worked as a fry cook. On the side he
played poker and began to get really good at it. He eventually made
enough money playing poker to quit his cook's job in order to play
poker full-time.
For about ten years, he played back and forth from Texas to Vegas.
Then, he won his first world championship in 1987. The very next
year, he won again. Then in 1989, he was trying for a third title
but lost to a very young Phil Hellmuth Jr.
Since then, he only plays big name events. He was featured in the
movie Rounders in the US about the gambling industry.
