Poker Legends - Doyle Brunson
Doyle Brunson (Texas Dolly) was born in West Texas in 1933. He
earned a full scholarship for basketball to Hardin-Simmons University.
He was even scouted by NBA's Minneapolis Lakers (now LA Lakers).
A major knee injury put a stop to any possibility of a pro career
just before the NBA draft. Shortly there after, the history of poker
changed dramatically.
Even though he completed his degree in Education, he went on to
tour the gambling underground circuit in the South making a name
for himself there by winning thousands of dollars playing poker.
He won back-to-back world poker championships in 1976 and 1977.
He finished 2nd in 1980. He has won a total of 6 World Series of
Poker events, his most recent in 1998, the Seven- Card Stud Razz
(lowest hand wins)event.
In 1999, he defied all odds by making the final table at the first
Tournament of Champions. He wrote - How I Won A Million Dollars
PlayingPoker in 1978. He lives in Las Vegas and is often seen playing
at the Bellagio.
